What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

When it comes to growth and healing, our imagination is our greatest resource. Expressive Arts Therapy work taps into the expansive intuitive potential of our imaginations in order to help us move through challenges, find understanding, or new perspectives.

Expressive Arts Therapy is a way of working with people that focuses on using the arts as a tool and resource for healing, problem solving, and personal growth. It is a unique approach that includes the use of multiple art forms. A session or set of sessions could involve moving between using sound, visual art, movement, sculpture or collage making, writing, and/or play. No previous experience in any art form is necessary and we work together to find which tools work best.

Working individually or in groups, we focus more on the creation process and what can arise when we let our imaginations and senses lead the way. A safe space is held for exploration so that we can take a break from our own judgments around what art should look like or be. This helps us to find new creative pathways that can flow into our daily lives.
